Please respond to the following question in approximately 100 words (half a typewritten page):
If you were an administrator at a private university, what measures would you take— outside of a formal list of speech codes—that would foster a university atmosphere receptive and welcoming of difference? Your first response should outline the measures you would take in fulfilling this task. Your second response should evaluate the pros and cons of the measures proposed by another student in the class.

If I was an administrator as a private university, I would promote diversity by having many campus clubs that each have a different aspect of being different. I would also promote student organizations where students can come together and discuss the many different social problems that are happening, each person with his or her own opinion. This will promote students to look at the different views that individuals might have, each coming from a different background and understanding. I will also promote campus wide messaging and social media outreaches. This can bring students together by allowing people to express their differences and show the other students who they are and where they came from and what they stand for. This would all be very beneficial in welcoming difference into the private university and showing that difference should be embraced and it can be embraced in different manors. I was the first student to post so i cannot evaluate anyone else discussion.

Being a private university administrator, it is always my goal to help the whole campus understand that uniqueness and individuality are what make the community whole. Having been to a Jewish university with no Jewish background as I am Catholic, I’d want a club or even guest speakers to inform students and staff about different religions and how despite their differences, they can have commonalities between them. In addition to being knowledgeable about different religions, the clubs and guest speakers can also talk about issues that are prevalent in today’s society, like poverty and immigration, so that students understand that some people are not lucky enough to be able to afford school or their own housing. Jonny’s suggestion of using social media is a great idea because almost everyone has access to it, and messages will be spread more quickly. However, not everyone is open to using those kinds of platforms (just one more idea of a difference between people), so the ones who prefer not to use the Internet have limited access to discussion.

If I was to be an administrator of a private University I would try to form a connection with other schools nearby. I would try to host events or dinners that would bring students from around the area making the campus a focal point for people other than the students who attend. It is always nice to get to know new people and in such cases like ours, we are a Jewish University and we have an advantage of hosting big Shabbats. Not only do I believe this would be beneficial in bringing groups like Hillel, or the student bodies of UC schools in hope of showing them why they should't be anti-semetic, I think it would be beneficial for our own students as well. They would be together, to eat, to have fun ,and it would be beneficial for the Non-Jewish students like how Ariana was pointing out who would like to learn more about the Jewish culture. i would take what makes that Private University most special and expand on its strengths. The cons of what Johnny and Ariana said is that true, it would be nice to have speakers and more clubs, the problem is the lack in school spirit especially in commuter schools. It is hard to make people want to stay and be here more than they need to be.

If I was an administrator as a private university, I would promote diversity by having a wide variety of clubs on campus that would have a contrast aspect of being different. I would strongly advocate for student groups where students can get together and talk about social issues that are current, where each student can share his or her own stance on the topic. I believe that this would promote students to view the different perspectives that individuals may have. With the effect of social media,I will push for campus wide social media outreaches. This aspect of social media could contribute to bringing students together by allowing them to share their differences and what they stand for. The only cons of what Johnny and Ariana said is that as lovely as it would be to have speakers and more clubs, the obstacle is the absence of school spirit especially with commuter students. It is often hard to make people want to stay longer at school than they need to be.With a private university, it is good to inclusive and let all students know that their opinion matters.

If I was a administrator at a private university, I would promote diversity by having many different clubs. These clubs will differentiate from one another by having different mindsets towards various issues. I would also highly encourage all of the students to join in order for their voices to be heard. Social media can be used as a tool in order to help everyone connect with each other and see everyones views. I think that Jonny's idea of social media outreach is very useful in the scenario of a college campus. The con of that idea is that not every student has a social media account and not everyone feels comfortable enough to share on social media.

Today's politically correct world is still lacking all of the political correctness that it needs, especially in the right places. Universities foster our next generation and create an environment that changes the playing field for all the wish to be involved. If I was elected or appointed to be in charge of a university, I would make sure that we have proper tools that create the right amount of confidence in students to go out into the world to be leaders and stand up for what's right. One such way I would institute that is standard curriculum for all students consisting of a "college seminar" class that covers the evils of racism. I would offer a "senior capstone" class that builds leadership skills for all. It will be translatable to people of all belief systems, races and sexual orientations.

If I was an administrator for a private university, I would encourage the freedom of speech. Being honest to one another, is an essential key for successful communication and meaningful organization. My goal is to outreach the external community and allow the university to be known among the vast majority of college students. I would suggest students to be creative and master their approaches towards daily debates. This will be a freedom of choice university, by not depriving any rights from any students. Johnny's idea of expressing differences among students is very insightful. This will promote a healthy relationship between one student to another. Essentially, one must be different in order to be part of a diversified community.
